O-Ring Installer

The o-ring Installer was produced to enable effective installation of an o-ring into a fitting.  The device is used to replace an inefficient and problematic manual insertion process.  Utilizing a unique mechanism, the device conforms the o-ring to easily insert it into a fitting.

This product was designed for Curt Nordstrom at Fiero Fluid Power to help satisfy his customers needs.  Fiero's customer manufactures a kidney dialysis machine.  The fittings used in the machine must utilize silicone o-rings rather than the conventional Buna-N rubber due to the cleaning agents used to flush the machine.  The fitting manufacturer was not able to supply the fittings with silicone o-rings so Fiero had to manually change them.  The o-ring installer designed and built by OTB is being used to replace the inefficient and problematic manual insertion process.  The o-ring installer reduced the installation time from >20 seconds per o-ring and collet to <5 seconds while also reducing the repetitive motion injury concerns.  Another benefit to the project is that Fiero is employing mentally handicapped individuals through a life skills center to use the device and provide quality finished product to the customer.
